Junia Joslin Cemetery
2 Fred Davis Road, Thompson 0.5 acres
GPS Lat. 41.997023 Long.-71.810554
This cemetery was not identified in the Hale Collection because it was not found until the Thompson Conservation Commission did its review of cemeteries in 2013. It is located on the Robbins/O’Leary/Blain Preserve in East Thompson.
In 1859, Patty Joslin deeded to Junia S. Joslin property which is located on private property off of Kingsbury Road. Per the deed “The said ½ acres is to be fenced and used only for the purpose of a family burying lot for the heirs and descendants of Junia Joslin of Thompson and late deceased.” Death records show that this Junia Joslin lived from 1784-1857.
There is no documentation that anyone was ever buried here.
Junia S[mith] Joslin (c 1823-1887) is one of the sons of Junia and Martha Coates Joslin; he is buried in the Woodstock Central Cemetery.
Theory: Patty is a common name for women named Martha in this period of time. It may be that Patty Joslin, who made the deed in 1859, and Martha Coates Joslin, mother of Junia are one and the same person.
