Auto Racing in Thompson
Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, a Hoenig Family business, started out as the Thompson Speedway in 1940. In 1953, the Thompson Raceway, a sports car track, was formed through the addition of a road race course initially with George Weaver. This road course used a portion of the Speedway oval. The Raceway was discontinued in its third configuration in the 1980s. There have been numerous changes to the racing facility in its 85+ years, the most recent being the addition of a new 1.7 mile road race course.
While the weekly schedule for the oval track and NASCAR racing has ended, ACT/PASS races are still held each year. Numerous events are held on the road course to include SCCA Majors and regional events, club events, vintage, drifting, motorcycle and other driving events, including high speed driving schools.
The Raceway Golf Course was built in the mid 1940s by the talented golfer Donald Hoenig with his father track founder, John Hoenig, as a 9 hole course. It was expanded to 18 holes in the 1960s and is today a full service 18 hole course and practice facility.
